Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, is a singer-songwriter and Canadian American. Her albums span over 20 years. The songs of DiFranco are classified as alternative and folk. However, they also incorporate elements of hip-hop, jazz and punk. The widely regarded feminist icon Grammy award winner Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement being one of the first musicians to launch her own record label in 1990. DiFranco was a born on the 23rd of September 1970, in Buffalo New York. Her parents were Elizabeth (Ross), from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Dante Americo DiFranco. Her father is of Italian heritage, while her mother is from Montreal. Ani's song, 32 Flavors was composed by her, and performed by Ani. This song appears on her sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. On the soundtrack of 1999's Canadian romantic film Better Than Chocolate is a version of the song. DiFranco apologised in 2013 when it was revealed that she was planning to hold a three day workshop at an Louisiana plantation for slaves. Many (including us) did not feel affected by her decision to cancel. DiFranco issued another apology several days afterwards. Although she's known as Little Peoplesinger, she's worked with many musicians and artists from Pete Seeger through Chuck D all the way to Prince. The singer lives in New Orleans.
